Online Quiz Benefits

The possibility for education on the Web is amazing. In fact, the Web is becoming the most popular medium for the delivery of instructional materials. The ever growing interest of instructional designers on the Web is stimulating more and more. The creation of quiz pages is more popular now.

Online is how today’s students live. They talk to their friends online. They research their homework online. They get their music online.

With today’s interconnected world, students are already familiar with the web. They use smart-phones, tablets, and computers to interact with friends and family, learn about the world around them, and discover new and interesting things.

Quizzes are one of the best ways to test student’s mastery of specific material without letting them feel overwhelmed about a full test or exam. Online quizzes can help students prepare for larger, more comprehensive tests that may be required by the curriculum.

Online quizzes are increasingly popular as tools for testing student knowledge and skills and also as formative tools to help teachers mold the curriculum to fit the learning progress of the students.

It can't be denied that the use of technology for mathematics teaching and learning is much more effective, motivating and challenging than the use of the traditional classroom tools: pen, paper and chalkboard.

Benefits:
Online quizzes can automate quiz grading and provide immediate feedback.

Additionally, online quizzes can produce statistical analysis of class performance.

Online quizzes can also serve as ungraded self-assessments, which provide immediate feedback and practice to students.

Teacher benefits

Advantages to teaching staff of using online quizzes included:

  1. Marking time is significantly reduced, although this is offset initially by the set-up time and the ongoing maintenance.
  2. It is easier to track individual student progress by using multiple, small-weight quizzes.
  3. Automatically-marked online quiz marking is scalable - an increase in students doesn't necessarily significantly affect marking time

Student evaluation and feedback

Positive student feedback responses about online quizzes and exams included:

  1. Quizzes encouraged students to keep pace with the unit.
  2. Students appreciated receiving regular feedback. They don't have to wait for a long time before getting their results.

As general limitations, we have to consider the following:

  • The problems of the Internet itself, that is, the connection is sometimes slow or down.
  • Students might not have internet access at home.
  • Students might not have a computer to work with.

With these limitations , alternate methods have to be provided for particular students.
